Hello, welcome! It’s Marcin, together with Jason… Hey guys. … and Nuno, our special guest for the video! We’re here to talk about the upcoming update for GWENT! Yeah! And it’s a big one! It’s huge! It’s the biggest one to date. There are just so many things in it that I don’t really know where to start. The cards, of course. We have 100 new cards coming. This gonna be the biggest drop of new cards for GWENT. But there’s so much more beyond that. Jason, can you take over from me and tell us a little bit more about those other things? With this update, of course, the 100 new cards is pretty awesome, but players can also expect to see a gameplay technology overhaul. We’ve been trying to do this for a while now and this will really allow us to unlock the potential of the designers, let them create the crazy cards that are in their imagination, and give us the foundation for releasing every feature that we want in the future. It was a critical step for us but it’s turning out really awesome. Nuno, can you tell us more about what we can expect from this technology update? The first thing that players will notice is the limit of 9 cards per row. This is a big change for, when you’re used to seeing those battles with Monster deck just swamping… Yeah, like Arachas. I remember those getting out of control. There’s a few reasons for this: it has to do with just making it easier for the designers to balance the game, etc, making it easier also for the user because whenever you have the row swamped with cards it’s very hard to select them, to target them. It’s hard to read and see. Understand what’s going on, find that card you need to target, sometimes there’s that card that you need to target. Also, in terms of performance because we support a bunch of platforms and once we have all those cards in play, once you have all those premiums also add on it. So it was a bunch of reasons combined into making it a cleaner design in terms of the board. It just made sense for us to go into that direction. What about the way abilities trigger? I heard there’s some changes going on there? With the new technology, what we’re doing is a complete overhaul of the abilities system. So the designers have much more control over how things trigger. And also this will be good for players because players will know what to expect from such situations. So you’ll know exactly how cards will trigger and who triggers first. We have this order of triggering, from left to right, melee, ranged, siege. So it’s easier for you to predict what’s going to happen. That’s super cool, that’ll definitely make it easier to figure out whether that Vran Warrior is going to eat that Nekker Warrior or whether that Villen is gonna scorch first. Also, there’s another big change which is an ability to cancel out unit plays. This is something, that I think, has frustrated everybody at least once in our GWENT life. Sometimes you’re playing a card, but you miscalculate what the card is, for example, or don’t read the battle right and you don’t see what the targets are there, so you drag a card there that now has, for example, to kill one of your units. And you don’t know until you’ve played it that this is the only target. And then there’s no backout. One example is the Alzur’s Thunder. With these new changes, what’s going to happen is that when you’re playing a card, the card goes through different stages. One of the stages is, what we call, an execution stack, so this is something that is waiting to be resolved. And at this point, you can just cancel it out and go back to the hand. And play a different card? Yeah. And the opponent hasn’t seen this card. That sounds awesome! Yeah, it’s really useful. And even when you’re playing a unit you can say: Oh no no, wait, if I move it there there’s going to be a side effect so I’m going to cancel it out, put it somewhere else and then do its ability. It’s hopefully going to resolve a bunch of problems in terms of gameplay. Sounds like things are just going to generally be smoother. Yes! What else can we expect from this update, Jason? Along with all these other changes that we’ve discussed so far we wanted to take this opportunity to upgrade the whole deck building/collection experience. It felt a little slow to have to go between the deck builder and the collection. Let’s say, I’m missing a card for my deck, I would have to go through loading screens and deck selections to be able to craft that card. To address that, what we’ve done is, we actually merged those two into one menu. Now there’s only the deck builder, there’s no longer the collection. We’ve changed the way decks are represented, you’ll be able to see your collection while you’re editing a deck, you’ll be able to see the cards you don’t have, you’ll be able to craft them. No loading screens, craft them and put them directly into your deck immediately. From the user flow, from an experience point of view it feels really much better. And you’ll notice that we did a huge polish pass, the visuals, the transitions, everything feels of much higher quality and speaks to the direction that we wanna head in with our menus in general. With that, we’ve also wanted to upgrade our matchmaking screen, so you can actually see the cards in your deck now. Before, you’d have to choose a deck now your decks are automatically selected, you see what’s in it, then you get to start matchmaking. Of course, you can still change your deck but overall it feels, looks and should flow way better than before. Super happy with it, yeah! Another change – whenever a new game starts you can see that the mulliganing screen has changed as well. One of those things again, tied to the usability. We’re trying to improve this experience. Now, when you get to a mulligan, you have all the cards in your hand visible and you can more easily figure out what you wanna do, instead of just scrolling back and forth. That’s nice, I’ll be able to make a more informed choice without scrolling through my hand. So the carousel is gone? Yes. Pretty much everywhere in the game. Also, with card choices it’s the same thing. Whenever you’re resurrecting cards from the graveyard it’s a much better way to see that information. It feels more visible, less claustrophobic. Earlier today, when I was playing the game I noticed that there’s an introduction of daily quests system. What’s up with that? We wanted to add a system to allow players to experience the game in a different way. They kind of incentivize you to play with, say, certain faction or certain game mode. They’re a new way to reward players for stepping out of their comfort zone and experiencing more of what GWENT has to offer. Yeah, face new challenges like playing with additional faction that they would normally not play. We’re introducing it now and we wanna do more and more with it to really get some fun out of it. The last thing I wanna mention real quick is our little buddy Shupe, the shopkeeper, is busy preparing something for this Holiday, a special offer, so make sure to check that out. Thanks for watching guys, we’re super excited, we can’t wait for you guys to get a chance to play with all these changes coming this update. This should be really awesome. Send us your feedback on the new gameplay. And see you around the GWENT table!

  1. I’m so excited for this it feels like an expansion definitely makes up for no thronebreaker for Xmas. Cheers cdpr thanks for letting us test it on the ptr I’ve tried to get in for awhile

  2. Nooooo, i don't wanna grind daily quests with decks i don't enjoy. Current system is so much better. Do we have to wait a few years for game designers to realize it?

  3. New UI looks pretty good, more visible and comfortable to me.I think this is not the final design, they will make mulligan screen adjustable.

  4. Gods now playing cards feels so artificial. You used to play crones and they would appear from your deck to the board. Now it looks really shitty.

  5. I hate to criticise but it needs to be said, the new in-game UI looks cartoonish and HS-like, which is a big flaw imo. Also, the dead space with the create feature has does not look good. The current system is great, sure it needs modifying, but at least now they look like cards and has a sophisticated and elegant design.

However, the deck creator looks great and is vastly improved.

  6. All of the cards have the bottom part cut off until you mouse over them as they are this weird square shape rather than card shaped.
Also, the UI looks like a downgrade from the current one.

  8. What about a reconnecting feature. From my last 10 games 50% were disconnects. 3 times me 2 times my opponent. Other games are fine and no issues with the connection.

  9. Guys! Please tell me, that I can enjoying my "more claustrophobic" Mulligan screen. Can I? I really love it! Really more than new cartoonish grid.

  10. holy fuck the UI and cards are ugly. Who the hell approved this ? You guys have the best looking cards in the industry and they look like absolute shit right now.

  11. I know, every change is very hard. Maybe it will be better by the time. But now I think they must bring back some things from the old UI, and mix with the new styles. It would be better.
    Best to you.

  12. Good job everyone!! This truly looks amazing and a hell of a lot smoother. I am super excited!! Gwent looks to be heading in a positive direction. Also, a big shot out to everyone who helped make Gwent to what it is now, the best card game on the planet. P.S…i think my wife got me a Gwent tee shirt for Xmas…hahahaha.

  13. Guys every change You made according to visual aspect is awfull, the UI, the graphic, the movement of a card, literally everything is a downgrade. Something went really really wrong. I really hope none of these changes would actually apply to the game.

  14. Seems this is a popular sentiment from the comments and it is still Beta so hope the devs are reading these but while the features of the new UI are great, aka merged deck building screen with the collection, all cards on the mulligan etc, the aesthetic of it is just bad. It's still impressive that CDPR took our feedback and made the changes we asked for, props to them, but i would agree that the Witcher is a series meant to be dark and ominous not so cheery. So thanks for listening, keep listening and adapt to the feedback given. Good features, bad look.

  15. The word "hearthstoney" fits perfectly. Please don't change too much of the Interface because what I saw of the new one it looks way cheeper and the numbers of damage displayed should always be known by the player I don't know to be reminded every time I used an alluzurs thunder that I did seven damage…

  16. i really don't agree with the row limitations going on in gwent simply because long rounds will probably not be happening and just overall the limitations overall "limits" playability of the game and to compensate for that they are adding a lot of movement mechanics and row filling molding the game around this whole card limit moving row system but this is just going to make the game one in the same because it would make more sense to play to the weaknesses of the game itself like how people try to exploit card advantage. Movement overall as a mechanic shouldn't be just a general use now because of row limits and i see that being exactly the case. see whats great about gwent is you have so many flushed out design ideas like cursed, movement, machines, swarm, spells and so on and they all had a weakness like skellige weak to grave hate for example. this card limit change sounds like a weakness for a card type or for a faction idea however you made it a general thing for the entire game so now those unique card builds are no longer unique because everyone has the same crutch and everyone will likely play movement now like i said because row limits are just a general weakness to everyone.

  17. Functionality, top; Design, flop. I really appreciate the effort you put into it guys, but it looks ugly. The old color schemes were very nice.

    Nuff Said.

  19. I’m not sure I understand the hate I like these changes and think it looks better. I’m glad they’re not going with a cartoony route which is what I afraid of .

It’s still a beta we have to give constructive criticism not just say it’s “ugly” if we think it doesn’t look good.

  20. No fuck no, no daily quests. I don't want to play as Skellige… ever. This is why I hate RNGstone. Please reconsider daily quests.

  21. I know I probably shouldn't be worried, considering how great CDPR is at listening to community feedback, but these changes do worry me. Many of them are clearly setting up for a mobile release, which I'm really excited about, but the main way I play Gwent is and always will be on the PC. Thus seeing all these UI changes that take away awesome detail and make everything so simple is just a huge bummer. The collection screen looks awesome on the current build and the new merged version is just so bland compared to that. There's lots of visual disappointments in here, but maybe it's silly to complain about it, if the gameplay is still good old Gwent and it doesn't start going toward the mess of randomness that is Hearthstone.

Jesteście najlepsi w swoim fachu, naprawdę stać was na więcej 🙂

  23. I liked the old Mulligan screen and deck builder with the cards on the left side it looks heartstony. The old UI gave gwent it's own signature style and you are taking it away from the game. Overall I don't like the UI changes

  24. That new mulligan UI is super weird. It's a good idea to see everything on screen but the execution is just bad. Otherwise Im really excited for this update.
And finally you merge that collection and deck building!!

  25. this patch really kill the beautiful UI and variety gameplay of queensguard SK deck
Freya and Sigrdrifa are good card for SK variety gameplay
they r the necessary keycard to resurrect other cards to support that weak queensquard mechanically
Sigrdrifa with Donar is the only way to take back 8 str gueensquard (strength by Draig ) from opponent graveyard at R3
restore is fking awlful, why i need a 8str silver card if it cant resurrect Freya or other low power card
new doom is fking shit really shit!
everybody take Freya and Sigrdrifa now because SK bronze card are fking shit as this new update

  26. On the PS4 version, we desperately need the ability to close the mulligan screen to check the graveyards, and a version of the card tracker app already available on PC. The announced changes all look great, keep up the good work!

  27. If I wanted to play hearthstone, I would have gone to play hearthstone dammit. The UI change in deck building is terrible. Though seeing what I'm going to play is good. Please don't change the daily round reward system. Please. And for the love of God, please reduce the Rng in your game. If I have to deal with the same level I dealt with this season, imma quit Gwent.

  28. One half of your dev team is spot on, the other half seems determined to fuck up everything the first half is trying to accomplish. Just because you say the words "its much better this way" doesn't make it true lol. Especially when it's so transparent you're solely doing all of this for the app/console versions.

btw you should be attempting to make them look MORE like actual, physical cards, not less.

  29. Ye, for some reason the game feels less "dirty" which kinda hurts the atmosphere. I feel like some of the new effects doesn't fit into Gwent, also the cards are smaller the UI looks shoddily, the movement of cards is weird in some way. There is something about the changes that doesn't click.

  30. Really, really disappointed with the direction the game is going. I've been playing since Closed Beta, and currently have almost a complete collection. At first I was super excited hearing about 100 new cards.

Saw a bunch of RNG added – I got a little worried but it wasn't as big of an issue for me as it for some people.

RNG leaders – Started becoming more concerned. Realized it's for the new draft mode which I guess makes sense, still don't like them but I could live with it.

Then yesterday's dev stream. The game is desperately going all out in to full Hearthstone mode. Colorful visuals, softened vfx, smaller cards, more RNG, the shortening of so many of the names – I'm going to give the new patch a chance but I have a feeling I'll be moving on, all these things being added are just flat out not for me. I guess someone at CDPR wasn't happy with the game's growth and wanted a push towards a blander, more cartoony, more generic looking game. But I think the game is losing a core part of it's identity, and the gameplay is losing what drew me to it to begin with.

  31. I know you guys are trying to simplify and speed up the matches with faster animations etc but half of this was unnesesary, sometimes if you improve to much you risk ruining the whole thing.

  32. I think adding 10 or so really unique ability cards is much better than adding 100+ crappy cards most of which have similar abilities(spawn and spawn and spawn….) and on top of it how do we craft all the 100+ cards(need some scraps….)?????

  34. I honestly dont get the complaints about the UI being more like HS. The UI in HS is easily the best thing about the game, while the old Gwent UI was very frustrating at times. The gameplay of Gwent remains the same and is much superior anyway.
However I do agree that the old darker appearance fits the Gwent atmosphere better. I think they should keep the looks closer to the original design while keeping the functionality of the new one.

  35. Dobra, jestem Waszym fanem.

  36. They just ruined the style of the game, and what made it unique. If they dont change it back to the more gritty style and fix the names on cards I wont be playing anymore.

  37. > have a half of playerbase demanding Gwent for smartphones

try changing it into this direction

. have another half of playerbase complaining

  38. CD PROJECT RED, i love what you do and your attirude for playes and consumers. BUT. I hope you will listen all feedback from your fans. New UI is like android game and this is owful. If you whant make mobile version its OK, but let people themself decide what UI they whant or make two different UI for PCconsoles and another for mobiles. So i tipe here olny about visual and didnt get into game balance, its all yours. For sure, you all whant do the best what you can, so lets us help you a little bit) From Russia, with love.

  40. Team Gwent, I just wanna say, YOU CANT MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY!!! Don't let hurtful comments border you too much.

And for F sake guys…..why the hell is everything a Heartstone copy now!? Flame the Devs about the UI…. Come on, I thought we are a better community than that. So how about less whining and more supporting.

How about be happy about new daily that give you extra ore or new beautiful cards or free new midwinter event!

  41. New update such HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT… i loved this game, but may be stop play after this one. A lot of good mechanics and cards are ruined, new cards added unbalanced and boring more than 50%. UI style and animation – looks so chip.

  42. Regarding gutting the card names. CDPR PLEASE… Even The Children's Card Game has cards such as Bolvar Fordragon/Varian Wrynn/Sylvanas Windrunner etc, not just 'Sylvanas'. Doesn't make it too comlicated and doesn't stop players calling these cards with short names. Gutting your lore and flavor is a HUGE misstep. Oh, and Villentretenmerth (had to google that) and Saethenthessis are totally fine right? Please reverse the change

  43. I like CDPR but this patch is garbage, after adding Battle Maidens, Skellige was so smooth to play, now its butchered after changes to freyas, maidens, veterans. Brokvar hunter removed for not a valid reason etc…..

  44. Ugly UI – More RNG – More Bugs – shitty deckbuilder – overall more cartoon and plastic looking
The Game feels more like a cheap mobile game right now.
The game feels less fluent and more clipped than before.

The Quality of Gwent clearly went down from this patch.

    very very sad

  46. This patch is so rushed and full of bugs… For me, Gwent has lost its original identity and charm. First, the gold cards immunity, then the elimination of row-locked units and now this whole UI & gameplay animation overhaul which IMO feels clumsy. Not a fan of the million RNG (sorry, I meant "create") new cards too. Game is now unrecognisable. I like the new flashy vfx of cards on the board though and that's the only positive thing I can think for the current state of the game.

  47. This update destoryed my Monsters deck. Used to stack cockatrice with harpies and neckers then use my leader ability to absorb before making my leader resilient. Now I have to start again, this will take some grinding.

  48. I have stopped playing this game because of this update. My decks were built around the certain abilities of some cards. Those abilities are gone. My decks are now garbage. All the time and resources I spent on those decks has been wasted.

  49. My eyesight is not the best so the deck builder just gives me a headache to look at it is really hard to see without straining
