Brain-Training Game May Help Schizophrenic Patients
I’m Gabe Garza with your latest health news.
Patients with schizophrenia may be able to
achieve a better quality of life thanks to
a new ‘brain-training’ game created for the
iPad. This game could help patients regain
memory and other important skills, along with
the confidence to apply them. Schizophrenia
is a mental disorder that can affect cognitive
functions, such as the ability to focus, memorize
and absorb information for later use. Anti-psychotic
medications are typically used to treat schizophrenia.
However, there is no proven drug therapy for
treating the losses in episodic memory that
come along with schizophrenia. Episodic memory
is like remembering where you parked your
car after going shopping for several hours.
It is hoped that brain-training games can
provide patients with the means to overcome
some of these debilitating symptoms and allow
them to regain normal daily lives.
