F1 2016 – 100% Race at Sochi Autodrom, Russia in Palmer’s Renault
We’re here once again then, for some more Grand Prix action. Where success and failure are seperated by fractions of a second. Where victories are rescued from the jaws of defeat. It’s here that history is made and we’re just about ready to make a little more. Built on the shores of the Black Sea the Sochi Autodrom is a 3.6 mile tour around some of the venues built for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Close barriers may make overtakes more challenging but with 56% of the lap taken absolutely flat out we certainly won’t be wanting for pure speed. A fitting arena then, to do battle at the pinnacle of motorsport. I, for one, can’t wait to get started and there’s another very excited little chap here beside me as well. It’s our very own Anthony Davidson. Great to see you again today! Thanks for that, Crofty. And I’m really anxious to get underway here. We’ve got all the makings of a great race today. World Champions in competitive cars, lots of drivers on form and I suspect a few strategists on the pitwall looking to try something a bit different and maybe jump their cars up the order. “Keep your eyes open on the run to Turn 1 and keep it clean.” “We want to come out in one piece. Good luck!” So before the off, let’s remind ourselves of yesterday’s qualifying session with a look at the starting grid: An immense lap from Lewis Hamilton yesterday puts him on pole position. Edging out Raikkonen, who’ll start P2. Looking down the rest of the grid, we have: Rosberg – Vettel Max Verstappen – and Ricciardo Hülkenberg – Massa Grosjean – and Esteban Gutiérrez Bottas – Button Felipe Nasr – and Kvyat Sainz – Pérez Rio Haryanto – and Fernando Alonso Wehrlein – and Magnussen Marcus Ericsson – and Jolyon Palmer rounds off the grid. Now it’s almost time to light out so let’s go down to the track! “Well done. Good finish! You stepped up and achieved what we asked. Good job.” A great win then, for the Mercedes team today. And I have to wonder, Anthony Davidson just what set them apart from the competition here? It was a question of right place, right time today. We were looking at an entirely different race before the Safety Car came out but they were able to take full advantage after the field had been bunched up. And here are our podium drivers today after that excellent race. They’ve excelled here, as they so often do and it’s a well deserved victory. Mercedes then, are on top today! So then, it’s time to see how this result affects the driver’s championship. Lewis Hamilton takes over the lead of the driver’s championship after an excellent result. Moving on to the driver to the day then. Anthony Davidson, who would you go for? Well, Jolyon Palmer did a great job coming through the field today, so my vote goes to him. After all that excitement, it’s time for a lie down I think. Thanks for joining us and goodbye until the next race!
